25+1+1 minibus and 51+1 coach for groups, with the city access permit already booked by us. Lucca, Versilia, the Garfagnana and Pisa. Written quote within 2 hours.
Lucca has something no other Tuscan city has: the historic centre sits inside 4.2 kilometres of Renaissance walls that were never torn down, and tourist coaches do not go in. So far, nothing unusual. What catches most groups out is the permit: in Lucca it is sold online only, and in advance. Since November 2024 you can no longer pay on arrival, and there is no way of sorting it out on the spot on the morning itself.
GiroMunna is a licensed NCC operator based in Ponte Buggianese, province of Pistoia — a little over half an hour from Lucca. We do the driving, we buy the permit, and the driver knows the gates, the one-way system and the real running times on these roads.
From Florence, Pisa, the coast or the port of Livorno. Lucca on its own, or combined with Versilia or Pisa.
Lucca is Puccini's city: his birthplace, the Puccini Museum and, in summer, the Festival at Torre del Lago, half an hour from the walls.
The Lucchese villas on the hillside, from Marlia to Segromigno. Guests collected from several points and staggered runs home into the small hours.
Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, Torre del Lago. Thirty-five minutes from the walls to the sea: it fits comfortably into one day.
Pisa is forty minutes away, Florence an hour and twenty. We track the flight and wait if it is delayed, at no extra cost.
Vehicle and driver stay with the group for the day or for several days, as far as the Garfagnana and the Apuan Alps.
Mercedes-Benz in GiroMunna livery: air conditioning, fridge bar, sound system, reclining seats. Under eight metres, which is the right size for the narrow roads of the Garfagnana and for the villas on the Lucca hillside.
Mercedes-Benz Tourismo: air conditioning, reclining seats with footrests, fridge bar, on-board WC and wifi. For large groups on main roads.
The coach restricted-traffic zone runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and covers the centre inside the walls. Coaches do not enter: you drop off at the gates and park outside.
🚌 What almost nobody tells you: the Lucca permit has a single rate all year round, with no distinction by vehicle length or Euro emission class — and it runs from the time you arrive until 10 a.m. the following morning, so a group staying overnight pays for it once. There is also a substantial discount for groups having lunch or dinner at a restaurant within the municipality of Lucca, with a booking voucher confirmed by the venue: almost every food-and-wine tour qualifies. It has to be applied for at least three days before arrival, uploading the document to the portal — leave it to the day before and you pay the full rate. We handle it, and it appears in your quote at cost.
| From | Approx. distance | Time by coach |
|---|---|---|
| Pisa airport (PSA) | 25 km / 16 mi | 40 minutes |
| Pisa city centre | 22 km / 14 mi | 35 minutes |
| Viareggio | 25 km / 16 mi | 35 minutes |
| Montecatini Terme | 35 km / 22 mi | 45 minutes |
| Florence | 80 km / 50 mi | 1 h 20 |
| Florence airport (FLR) | 85 km / 53 mi | 1 h 25 |
| Forte dei Marmi | 40 km / 25 mi | 50 minutes |
| Castelnuovo di Garfagnana | 50 km / 31 mi | 1 h 10 |
These are indicative coach times. Towards the Garfagnana the road narrows and climbs: a long coach goes considerably slower than a car, and that difference belongs in the plan beforehand, not discovered along the way.
Want to see how a day is built, hour by hour? We have put together four sample itineraries with real coach timings.
It depends on the hours, the distance, the vehicle, the season and the permit. In Lucca the permit at least has the advantage of being a single one, identical all year: there is no high and low season as there is in Siena, and the length of the vehicle does not change the figure. We work it all out and send it in writing, item by item.
For a detailed look at what pushes a quote up or down, we have written a page on how the price is built.
Ponte Buggianese is just over thirty kilometres from the walls. No empty run across half of Tuscany just to come and collect you.
Booked online in advance and of the right type. You deal with nothing, and the coach does not end up locked out.
We are not a booking desk reselling to third parties. The vehicle is ours and the person driving it answers for the day.
A written quote, free and with no obligation, within two hours.
No. The coach restricted-traffic zone runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and tourist coaches do not enter the centre: you drop off at the gates and park at the Palatucci. From Piazzale Boccherini you are inside the walls in a few minutes on foot.
No, and this is the main difference from other cities. Since November 2024 the Lucca permit is sold online only, before you arrive. We take care of it when we confirm.
At Piazzale Boccherini, Porta San Pietro, Porta Elisa or Porta Santa Maria, depending on where your visit starts and which direction you come from. We set it out in the programme, with the time and the pick-up point for the return.
About forty minutes for 25 kilometres by coach. It is one of the shortest airport-to-city transfers in Tuscany.
Yes, without rushing. Viareggio is thirty-five minutes away: morning on the walls, afternoon and dinner by the sea.
Yes, but it has to be booked well ahead. At the end of October and the start of November the city is reorganised, vehicle availability across the whole area runs out early and journey times get considerably longer.
Tell us the dates, how many you are and where you are starting from. We buy the permit, choose the right gate and send you the programme with timings and a written price, within two hours.
