Wine tours and the wine roads

Coach hire with driver in Chianti

A 25+1+1 minibus that actually reaches the wineries, and a 51+1 coach for larger groups. Greve, Panzano, Castellina, Radda, Gaiole. Written quote within 2 hours.

Chianti is where the choice of vehicle matters more than anywhere else. The wineries are not on the main road: you reach them along narrow gravel tracks, with tight bends and gateways built for cars. A twelve-metre coach simply cannot turn into many of them — and the group ends up walking the last kilometre, uphill, in the August sun.

GiroMunna is a licensed NCC operator based in the province of Pistoia. Our minibus is 7.64 metres long, and that is precisely why it gets where others stop.

What we organise in Chianti

Day wine tours

From Florence, Siena or the coast: two villages, one or two wineries, lunch. Nobody has to drive back, which in Chianti is not a small detail.

Villa weddings

The most frequent case. The villa sits at the end of a gravel road and needs the right vehicle, plus staggered runs home into the small hours.

Several days at your disposal

Vehicle and driver stay with the group for the whole stay. Over consecutive days the daily cost comes down.

Airport transfers

Florence, Pisa, Bologna, Rome to the farmhouses of Chianti, with the last kilometre checked before we confirm.

Corporate groups

Incentives, dinners among the vines, team building at a winery. With a proper invoice and one single contact.

Larger groups

Above 25 we use the grand tourer, or two minibuses if the chosen wineries cannot take a long vehicle.

Why Chianti calls for the minibus

It is not about price, it is about access. Three things decide whether a vehicle gets there:

🚌 How we work: when you tell us which wineries are on your list, we look at the approach on the satellite view before quoting. If a vehicle will not fit we say so straight away and propose the alternative — a different winery, a drop-off further down, or two minibuses instead of one coach. Not on the day, at the gate.

Real distances in Chianti

LegDistanceTime by coach
Florence → Greve in Chianti32 km / 20 mi1 hour
Greve → Panzano10 km / 6 mi20 minutes
Panzano → Castellina18 km / 11 mi35 minutes
Castellina → Radda12 km / 7 mi25 minutes
Castellina → Siena25 km / 16 mi40 minutes
Florence → Castellina55 km / 34 mi1 h 15

These are coach times on the SR222, the Chiantigiana: a car takes roughly a third less. Anyone building the day on satnav times arrives late at the first winery and slips for the rest of the day.

A day that works

Leave Florence at 9, Greve at 10 with three quarters of an hour in the village, Panzano at 11:20 for the visit and tasting, lunch, Castellina in the afternoon and back at 17:45. Three hours of driving in total: the driver stays inside every limit and the day holds together.

What does not fit is adding Siena: you finish after 8 p.m. and the city gets forty minutes, which is not worth the drive. You will find that day written hour by hour, along with three others, in our sample itineraries.

How much does a Chianti wine tour by coach cost?

It depends on the hours, the distance, the vehicle and the season. In Chianti city access permits weigh less — the villages do not charge what Florence or Siena do — and time weighs more: a day with long stops ties up vehicle and driver as much as a far longer transfer.

For a detailed look at what pushes a quote up or down, we have written a page on how the price is built.

You book the wineries. We handle the vehicle, the driver, the timings and the routes: the visits, the tastings and the restaurants stay your choice, and nobody is taking you where they have an arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

Does the coach reach the winery itself?

With the minibus almost always, gravel roads included. With the grand tourer it depends: send us the names of the wineries and we check the approach before confirming.

How many wineries fit into one day?

Two, comfortably. Three only if they are close together and the visits are short. Anyone promising four has not counted the driving or the tasting times.

Do you book the wineries?

No, you book them. We organise the vehicle, the timings and the routes, and tell you whether the programme holds together.

Can we start from Siena instead of Florence?

Certainly. Chianti is closer from Siena: Castellina is forty minutes away.

There are 35 of us — can we do a wine tour?

Yes, with the grand tourer if the wineries are reachable, otherwise with two minibuses. We tell you which of the two works out better in your case.
